Refuting The Mormons

Intro:

Joseph Smith was born in 1805 in Vermont and shortly after moved with his family to New York when he was a boy. As a teen he supposedly was looking for the right church to join when he got a vision from God (several visions). He distinctly saw an Angel named “Maroni” who told him of secret Gold plates of the divine history of the former inhabitants of the Americas. These so called plates contain the “ fullness of the everlasting Gospel’. Several years later Maroni told him to dig up the plates then translate them with “Urim and Thurim” and write down the testimony. Weeks later he translates these plates and presto… the BOOK OF MORMAN! Furthermore their teachings have been seen as racist. While at least two black men held the priesthood in the early church, from the mid- 1800s until 1978, Joseph Smith and Brigham Young reasoned that black skin was a result of the Curse of Cain or the Curse of Ham. They used these Biblical curses to justify slavery. Young believed the curse made black people ineligible to vote, marry white people, or hold the priesthood. Successive elected presidents continued to use the Biblical curses to justify excluding black men from the priesthood. The idea that black skin was a curse was not officially contradicted until 2013.

When a Mormon says he believes in the Trinity, he does not mean the historical orthodox Trinity of one God who exists in three persons. To a Mormon, the Trinity is a position held by three separate gods: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.

Remember, the correct doctrine of the Trinity is that there is only one God who has existed for eternity. This one God exists in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. They are not three separate gods but only one God.

When a Mormon says he believes in God, he does not mean in the one true God, the creator of all things, the One who has always existed from all time. He means he believes in a god who used to be a man on another planet, who followed the laws and ordinances of that god on that planet and became exalted to godhood. And, to top it all off, he has a wife who is a goddess.

Mormons Claim: Mormons believe God created all things including Jesus and Satan. Since Jesus and Satan were created beings Mormons believe Jesus and Satan are brothers.
Bible Truth: 2 Corinthians 6:14 “ What fellowship can light have with Darkness”.
Mormons Claim: A number of Gods exist and they all have flesh and bones. “ Doctrine and Covenants 130:22 “ The father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as mans; The son also, but the Holy Ghost has not a body of flesh and bones.

Bible Truth: There is only one God who is spirit ( Mark 12:29, Ephesians 4:6, John 4:24, Luke 24:39

Mormons Claim: Jesus was “begotten” through literal intercourse
Bible Truth: Jesus was “ begotten “ by the Holy Spirit through a virgin mother
Mary ( Mathew 1:18-23)

Mormons Claim: Some Mormon writings teach that God is “PROGRESSIVE” in
knowledge and power.
Bible Truth: God is perfect and cannot change his nature. Nor can Jesus. ( Malachi 3:6, Hebrews 13:8

Mormons Claim: Jesus was married to several women and had children by them.
Bible Truth: The only wife Jesus has is the CHURCH! ( 2 Corinthians 11:2, Ephesisans 5:25-32)

Mormons Claim: The book of Morman claims that three days of darkness occurred at Jesus crucifixtion ( Heleman 14:20). Alma 4:10 Has Jesus been born in Jerusalem. Mosiah 18:17 Speaks of the establishment of the church of Christ in 147 BC. And Alma 46:15 says people were called Christians in 73 BC?)
Bible Truth: Three hrs of darkness (Mathew 27:45) Bethlehem (Mathew 2:1) Jesus began establishing his church by giving Peter the keys (Mathew 16:18) AD 29(Acts 2:26-42) AD 43 (Acts 11:26)

Mormons Claim: The spirit of humans are eternal.
Bible Truth: Man was created totally in (Genesis 1:26-27), and our spirits are now created and placed in our physical bodies (Zecheriah 12:1, ECC 12:7,). Only God is immortal ( 1 Timothy 6:16-16)

Mormons Claim: They think living humans can be baptized for the benefit of a dead human? I know weird….!!!!!!
Bible Truth: After death there is absolutely no second chance. Luke 16:19-31;2 Corinthians 5:10;Hebrews 9:27). Biblical baptized is always based on individual faith.

Mormons Claim: Both Aaronic and Melchizedek priesthoods were given to them by God.
Bible Truth: The Melchizedek Priesthood is occupied by Jesus alone, and the aronic priesthood is part of the old covenant wich has been done away in Christ ( Hebres 7:11-12). All true disciples are priest. (1 Peter 2:9)

Mormons Claim: Mormons believe that if you read the Book of Mormon and then pray and ask God whether or not it is true, you will receive a testimony from the Holy Spirit verifying its truth. If it is true, then Joseph Smith is true and so is Mormonism. Many Mormons claim to have this testimony.
Bible Truth: God never says to pray about truth. He says to search the Scriptures to find truth (Acts 17:11; 2 Tim. 3:16). Ask them if they ever had to pray about the Bible to see if it is true. Of course they haven’t. So why are they supposed to pray about the B.O.M.?

Mormons Claim: A common verse that Mormons use to support their belief that you can pray about the B. O. M. is found in James 1:5: “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.” They say that because since they believe they’re sincere, God will answer them
Bible Truth: This verse is about wisdom–not about praying to see if the Book of Mormon is true?

Mormons Claim: The Morman Church has a continuing line of prophets who reveal and interpret the will of God.
Bible Truth: Prophecy ended with the death of the first century prophets. ( Acts 8:9-18, 1 Corinthians 13:8-10). The apostles received all the truth in the first centry and taught it to us (John 14:25-26, Ephesians 3:2-5)

Mormons Claim: Mormonism maintains that the true gospel message was lost from the earth shortly after the apostles died. The Mormon Apostle Orson Prat said, “Jesus . . . established his kingdom on earth . . . the kingdoms of this world made war against the kingdom of God, established eighteen centuries ago, and they prevailed against it, and the kingdom ceased to exist.” (Journal of Discourses. Vol. 13, page 125).
Bible Truth: Mathew 16:18 “ Upon this rock I will build my church!

Errors in the Book of Mormon

1.     Saved by grace after all you can do? (2 Nephi 25:23)
2.     How could Moroni “read” Heb. 13:8 and James 1:17 when the N.T. never reached America? (Mormon 9:9).
3.     Helaman 12:25-26, written 6 B.C. says, “we read,” quoting 2 Thess. 1:9 and John 5:29. That is 90 years too early.
4.     Jesus, a son of God (Alma 36:17).

5.     Mosiah 21:28 says King Mosiah had a gift from God, but the original Book of Mormon manuscript reads “King Benjamin.”
6.     Jesus was born in Bethlehem (Micah 5:1-2; Matt. 2:1). In the Book of Mormon (Alma 7:9,10) it says it was Jerusalem.

Tips: Most Mormons share their faith by sharing their testimony. Ask them where is their testimony? They may say “It’s in my heart”. Share with them (Jeremiah 17:9). Then ask how they got their testimony? They usually will say “by the Holy spirit”.
